New Balance’s 860v2 Is the New Alternative Retro Runner

Out of all the retro runners popular today, New Balance’s 1906R stands out as the most sought-after silhouette thanks to its easy-to-style colorways and complementing shape. However, as the model rises to peak popularity, and sneaker enthusiasts search for a new alternative, another sneaker emerges in a forthcoming revival: New Balance 860v2.

First introduced in 2011, the 860v2 was engineered to be a high performance silhouette, succeeding the 2002R and 1906R in a specialized running line. Its noticeably elongated-yet-streamlined shape plays host to the brand’s ACTEVA LITE cushioning as well as an ABZORB sole, and features the open knit mesh and metallic paneling that is so widely loved today.

For the latest reissue of the sneaker, New Balance hones in on its classic array of features in a three-piece pack. Unlike the vibrant Aimé Leon Dore collaboration which introduced neon tones to the body, the new arrival keeps to signature gray. On the “Dusted Grape” and “NB Navy” iterations, the sneaker is punctuated with toned-down gray hues whilst the “Optic White” proposes a brighter, summer-ready look finished with contrasting black laces.
